Psychedelic Therapy

I offer psychedelic therapy preparation and integration as part of my practice.

Seeking out plant medicine is both an ancient and increasingly common contemporary approach to personal growth and healing. Taking such a journey can involve a number of different psychedelic agents. Depending on the agent involved, and the dosage taken, this journey can provide an opportunity to encounter an other, and in so doing, lead to opportunities to encounter yourself - in different, deeper, more meaningful ways.

Whilst my practice is not currently setup to offer access to such agents nor to provide support while you actually engage with them, I am able to support you during the preparation (pre-journey) and integration (post-journey) stages within the context of a therapy-related process.

ISTDP and Psychedelic Therapy

The therapeutic modality I work with (ISTDP) uniquely complements psychedelic therapy. This is because it is intensively focused upon the psychodynamic and somatic factors involved in emotional experiencing and therefore on the wounds and responses to those wounds that we all carry within us - which can then lead, in turn, to psychodynamic and somatic issues.

That which may be encountered via psychedelic work can assist in engaging with those wounds and subsequent responses within us. When combined with the ISTDP process, we may find ourselves well positioned to not only receive and make sense of what psychedelic work can facilitate connection to, but also then - to act upon it.

Preparation for Psychedelic Therapy

Preparation (pre-journey) would likely first address your reasons for wanting to engage in psychedelic work in the manner you have chosen, as well as the related difficulties you are facing in your life.

It would involve checking in emotionally around the difficulties in your life. This would give us a sense of where you are, in relation to yourself, as you prepare for your journey.

It would also involve building structure, cognitively, around the journey you are hoping to take. This would give us a sense of where it is that you are preparing to go. My perspective on this is significantly informed by my own cultural and ancestral heritage.

This two-pronged approach to preparation would also help us to understand whether such a journey would be a good fit for you at this time. It is therefore important to add that there is no set time for this part of the process. Preparation may be short, or it may be longer. It really depends on where you are, and what you are seeking.

Integrating Psychedelic Therapy

Integration (post-journey) will start with debriefing and beginning to process the intrapsychic and somatic experiences most readily available to you as you look back upon your journey.

It would again involve checking in emotionally around aspects of these experiences to help clarify and even facilitate any shifts occurring. This should help us get a sense of where you went on your journey.

It would also again involve building structure, cognitively, around these experiences and shifts, to help you integrate them into your outlook and stance. This should help us get a sense of where you are going from here, and what you need to do as you go.

Again, there is no set time either for this part of the process. Integration may be short and simple, or it may occur in waves, in something making its way through you and gradually deepening over time. It depends on where you went, who you were going there, what came to meet you, and how much of that you are able to hold.
